Public Prompts & the Recommendation Algorithm — What You Need to Know

Prompts are at the heart of everything created here. And for a lot of newer creators, learning to write them well is one of the steepest parts of the learning curve. The fastest way to get better isn’t a tutorial — it’s seeing exactly what someone else did, in a piece of work you already admire.

That’s why, starting today, we’re updating our recommendation algorithm to give more reach to posts with public prompts.

What changed

Starting today, posts with public prompts will receive a boost in two ways:

• More reach. The algorithm will prioritize surfacing these posts in the home discovery feed, giving them a better chance of reaching new audiences.
• Better discoverability. Visible prompts give our system more signal to understand your creative style, helping connect your work with people most likely to appreciate it.

This isn’t about penalizing posts that keep prompts private. It’s about recognizing that when creators share their process, they’re contributing something beyond the image itself — they’re giving newer members a foothold.

What counts as a public prompt?

By default, your prompt is visible to anyone who views your post. As long as you haven’t enabled the Hide Prompt option, your post qualifies for the boost.

FAQs

Q: Do I have to make my prompts public?

 A: No. This is an incentive, not a requirement. Posts with private prompts will still appear in recommendations as normal.

Q: Does this apply to posts I’ve already published?

  No. The boost only applies to new posts going forward.

Q: Will this affect post quality ranking?

 Prompt visibility is one factor among many. High-quality work will still perform well regardless — this update simply gives public-prompt posts an additional push.

Q: What if I change my mind and make a prompt private later?

 The boost applies at the time of recommendation scoring. Changing visibility after posting may affect future ranking.
