PixAI App Guide: Generate, Edit and Save AI Art on Your Phone
With the PixAI app, you can write a prompt, choose a model, generate an image, fix the parts that look wrong, and save the result without leaving your phone. The menus differ slightly from the web version, and a few tools take two extra taps to find.
This PixAI app guide walks through the app one screen at a time, based on version 4.21.5. If you usually create on a computer, the complete web guide will be more useful. For this guide, keep your phone handy and follow along.
👉 Try it on PixAI: the mobile browser works much like the app, so you can follow along before installing anything.
* The screenshots come from the iOS version. The Android app has the same layout and features. Store billing, permission prompts, and a few button labels differ, and those differences are noted where they appear.
What the app is good for
The quickest way to see what the app can do is to open the home screen. Four shortcuts sit directly below the feed, covering most everyday tasks.
- Home contains the community feed and the four shortcuts above. Tap an image in the feed to view its prompt, model, and LoRAs, then reuse those settings in your own generation. A prompt appears only if its creator made it public. Public prompts can also help an image reach more people. Read how public prompts affect the algorithm for details.
- Explore is where you search by model, LoRA or tag when the feed is not showing you what you want.
- The purple ⊕ in the middle is not a tab. It opens the generate screen, which is covered in section 2.
- Library holds your previous generation runs, with the newest first. See section 5.
- Me is where you will find your credits, membership, rewards, and referral link. See section 6.
Some jobs are still easier on a larger screen. The table below shows what you can do in the app and when the browser may be more comfortable.
| Task | App | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Text to image | ✅ | Write a normal sentence. No tag syntax needed |
| Image to image | ✅ | The + button on the generate bar |
| Community models and LoRAs | ✅ | Including DiT models since 4.21.5 |
| Editing | ✅ | Inpaint, Outpaint, Edit Pro, Reference Pro |
| LoRA training | ✅ | Home, then Train LoRA. Training guide |
| Image to video | ✅ | Home, then Animations. I2V tutorial |
| Contests | ✅ | Entry and voting from the feed |
| Browsing the model market | ✅ | The market works normally in the app. A browser is simply easier when you want to browse for a while |
| Mio.2 | ❌ | Not currently available in the mobile app. Use Mio.2 on the web |
Where to download the official app
Search for PixAI in either app store and you will see several results. Do not rely on the name or icon alone. Check the developer listed on the store page.
- On iOS, the official listing is PixAI – AI Anime Art Generator from Metanomaly Pte. Ltd. On Android, it is PixAI: AI Anime Art Generator from Mewtant Inc. If the app name and store do not match this combination, or a site claims to distribute PixAI elsewhere, be careful. The phishing checklist explains what to look for.
- The iOS app requires iOS 17.0 or later and runs on iPhone and iPad. Android requires Android 9.0 or later.
- The interface supports 16 languages and follows your device language. Your button labels may therefore differ slightly from the screenshots.
- Your existing account carries over with the same credits, the same library and the same LoRAs. New here? The sign-up guide covers all four registration methods.
Starting a generation
The generate bar is simple. You can describe the image in a normal sentence without learning tag syntax.
- Tap ⊕ in the tab bar. The screen that opens says Generate at the top with your credit balance next to it.
- Describe the image in one or two sentences.
- Tap + if you want to start from a picture instead of from text.
- Everything else lives in the row under the prompt card, which scrolls horizontally. Model, LoRA, Reference, and output size are all here. Style and Mode appear only when you select a DiT.2 base model. Advanced Settings is available in every supported interface language. The defaults are fine for a first run.
- Check the credit figure on the button, then tap it. While the task is queued, you can switch tabs or close the app. Generation will continue in the background.

Tsubaki.2 understands natural language, including prompts written in languages other than English. Older SDXL models still tend to respond better to tags. Three ways to write a PixAI prompt explains when each format works best.
Choosing a model and a LoRA
The base model sets the overall look of the image. Add a LoRA when you want a particular character, outfit, or art style. Both settings sit in the same row beneath the prompt.
Since version 4.21.5, the app can search for community DiT models and use them for generation. That gives mobile users a much wider model selection.
Same prompt, three base models
These examples use the same prompt, seed, and size. Only the base model changes. Model choice can alter the result as much as adding another twenty words to the prompt. For male characters, start with Mastering Male Characters and the otome-friendly model list. The SDXL model comparison covers the other models.
What the strength slider does
These three runs use the same style LoRA, base model, and seed. Only the Strength setting changed.
The settings screen also shows the LoRA’s trigger word. Some LoRAs will not take effect unless that word appears in the prompt. Read how trigger words work for details. If you want the basics first, see what a LoRA is, how to apply one in four steps, and the full weight comparison on one image.
Editing, reference and inpainting
There are two ways to open the editor. Choose Edit Image on the home screen to import any picture. Open one of your own images and tap Edit to keep its original prompt and model. Both routes lead to the same canvas. At the top are Inpaint, Outpaint, and the Mask Size slider. Along the bottom are Mask, Eraser, Paint, Mask Shape, and Feather.
The Reference setting sits in the same row as Model and LoRA. Two preset models are designed specifically for edits that use reference images.
| What you want | Where it is in the app | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Repaint one area, keep the rest | Edit Image, then Inpaint | Inpainting guide |
| Extend the canvas outward | Edit Image, then Outpaint | Outpainting guide |
| Combine several reference images | Model, Preset, PixAI Reference Pro | Reference Pro |
| Complex edits from one instruction | Model, Preset, PixAI Edit Pro | Edit Pro |
| Make it bigger and sharper | Open the image, then Upscale (offered on some images) | 6 enhancement tools |
| Make manual corrections or select an area | Use Eraser, Brush, or Lasso in Edit Image. The app does not have a separate Enhance suite | Other enhancement tools |
For tools that are not yet in the app, use your phone’s browser. Both the image editor and the enhance tools work there. Flow Edit is also available if you want to edit an image by describing the change.
Viewing your generated images
Images generated on your phone go straight into the same library you see on the web. The account and library are shared, so there is nothing to sync manually.
- Saving. Download writes to your photo library. The first time, the system asks for permission. iOS calls it photo access and Android calls it storage or media access.
- Going public. Publish appears on the results screen, on the task card and in the single image view. Publishing also earns credits.
- Favourites. Tap the heart on an image to add it to Collection on the Me tab. Images you like in the feed are saved there too, alongside your own work.
- Reusing a run. Import to Generate pulls that image’s prompt, model and LoRA back into the generate screen. Re-roll runs it again untouched.
- Deleting. Deleting an image removes it from your library. Removing the whole account is a separate process with a 30-day restore window.
Credits, membership, and other features on the Me tab
Two cards sit at the top of the Me tab. The grid below them contains the shortcuts for credits, rewards, referrals, and saved images.
- Free credits. Open Rewards to claim your daily allowance and check-in rewards. The Watch ads banner on the generate screen offers ad rewards. Referral gives you a reward for each successful invite. See 13 ways to get free credits for the full list.
- Buying. Credit packs for one off top ups. What each membership plan includes is in the membership guide.
A subscription bought inside the app is handled by the app store you used. Cancel it through Apple on iOS or Google Play on Android, not through PixAI. The app subscription FAQ explains the steps and what happens when you switch plans.
What to try in your first week
Each day’s task takes only a few minutes. Try the full workflow once before deciding which tools you want to keep using.
- Day 1. Install, sign in, claim the daily credits, generate one image from a plain sentence, save it to your photos.
- Days 2 and 3. Run the same prompt on two base models. Then add one LoRA at 0.7 and compare.
- Days 4 and 5. Take one image you almost like and repaint a single area instead of regenerating the whole thing.
- End of week 1. Publish one image, check what the daily allowance actually covers, and decide whether a membership is worth it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the PixAI app free?
Yes. You receive daily credits without paying, and each generation uses credits. A membership gives you more credits and shortens the generation queue.
Are the iOS and Android versions the same?
The layout and features are the same, and updates usually arrive at about the same time. The differences come from the operating system. Subscriptions use each store’s billing, image-saving permissions are worded differently, and Android supports the system back gesture. A few button labels may also vary.
Do images made in the app show up on the web?
Yes. The app and website share one account and one library. Anything you generate on your phone appears when you open pixai.art on a computer.
How do I save an image to my camera roll?
Open the image and tap Download. The system asks for permission the first time. If you declined, re-enable photo or media access in your phone settings under the PixAI entry.
Does it work on a tablet?
The same app runs on iPad. The layout and workflow are the same, so you do not need separate iPad instructions.
Why can I not find a model I use on the web?
Search for the exact model name instead of scrolling through the list. Community DiT models became searchable in version 4.21.5. Older versions show fewer models.
Can I train a LoRA from the app?
Yes. Open Train LoRA from the home screen to complete the setup on your phone. The training itself runs in the cloud whether you start from the app or the web. The training guide explains how to prepare your images.
Is a subscription cheaper on the web?
Prices, payment methods and the cancellation path all differ between store purchases and web checkout. Compare them in the app subscription FAQ before you buy.
By this point, you have switched models, added a LoRA, and completed an inpainting edit inside the app.
